To a solution of 4-(5-methyl-9H-imidazo[1′,2′:1,2]imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-9-yl)phenol (238 mg) in DMA (4 ml) was added potassium tert-butoxide (112 mg) at room temperature. After stirring for 10 min, 3-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (211 mg) was added, and the obtained mixture was stirred at 150° C. for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by basic silica gel column chromatography (THF) and recrystallized from hexane/THF to give the title compound (229 mg).
