Benzyl 4-((1S)-1-(1,1-dimethylethylsulfinamido)ethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.825 g, 4.98 mmole) was dissolved in dioxane (10 mL) and 4N HCl in dioxane (5 mL, 1.3 eq.) was added. The mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The solvents were removed by rotary evaption to give the title compound as ahydrochloride salt (1.3 g). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD2Cl2) δ 8.46 (s, 2H), 7.44-7.27 (m, 5H), 5.11 (s, 2H), 4.26 (d, J=13.57 Hz, 2H), 3.24-3.12 (m, 1H), 2.86-2.61 (m, 2H), 1.99-1.86 (m, 3H), 1.38 (d, J=6.33 Hz, 3H), 1.34-1.23 (m, 2H). HRMS(C) tR=1.87 min; MS m/z 263.1760 (M+H)+
