To a solution of (S)-tert-butyl 3-(methoxy(methyl)carbamoyl)pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate in THF (18 mL) was added methylmagnesium bromide (in ether, 3 M, 2.7 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 2 hours, then quenched with saturated aqueous NH4Cl, and extracted with Et2O. The combined extracts were washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated to give the tile compound for the next step.
