In a 100 mL round bottom flask, 2-(bromomethyl)-1,3,4-trichlorobenzene (550 mg, 2.0 mmol), 4-amino-6-methylpyrimidine-2-thiol (282 mg, 2.0 mmol), and triethylamine (0.28 mL, 2.0 mmol) were mixed in ethanol (10 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The solvent was evaporated. To the crude solid, water (50 mL) was added. The suspension was filtered and washed with water and ethyl acetate to provide a white solid (530 mg, 95% yield); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 2.18 (s, 3H), 4.65 (s, 2H), 6.03 (s, 1H), 6.90 (br, 1H), 7.55 (d, 1H), 7.64 (d, 1H); M+ 334, 336.
