A mixture of 2-(bromomethyl)-1,3,4-trichlorobenzene (576 mg, 2.1 mmol), 3,6-dimethyl-2-sulfanyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-4-one (300 mg, 1.9 mmol), and triethylamine (280 μL, 2.0 mmol) in absolute ethanol (10 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The solid product was suspended in water (30 mL). The solid material was recovered by filtration, washed with water (2×10 mL) and hexanes (2×20 mL), and dried in vacuo, affording the title compound (475 mg, 72% yield); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 2.20 (s, 3H), 3.31 (s, 3H), 4.77 (s, 2H), 6.08 (s, 1H), 7.57 (d, 1H, J=8.8 Hz), 7.68 (d, 1H, J=8.8 Hz); M+ 350; HPLC purity: 95.8%.
