Procedure
(3-chloro-2H-indazol-2-yl)methanol was dissolved in SOCl2 (10 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours and evaporated to provide crude 3-chloro-2-(chloromethyl)-2H-indazole as a HCl salt.
