Hydroxylamine hydrochloride (77 mg, 0.001 mmol) was added to a solution of (2R,4S,4aS)-rel-9,10-difluoro-2,4-dimethyl-8-(phenylcarbonyl)-1,2,4,4a-tetrahydro-2′H,6H-spiro[1,4-oxazino[4,3-a]quinoline-5,5′-pyrimidine]-2′,4′,6′(1′H,3′H)-trione (Intermediate 13, 280 mg, 0.6 mmol) in methanol:pyridine (1:1, 3 mL) and the solution was heated to 90° C. for 12 hours. Solvents were removed and the residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography using a gradient of ethyl acetate in pet. ether to give the title compound as a racemic mixture. Yield: 120 mg (42%).
