A mixture of 4-amino-3-nitro-benzoic acid (12.0 g, 65.9 mmol) in 300 mL dichloromethane with 12 mL thionyl chloride was refluxed for 2.5 h, and concentrated to dryness i. vac. The residue was further reacted without further purification.
