To a solution of 5-methoxycarbonyl-3-[3-(1-phenyl -ethylthio)phenyl]thieno[3,4-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (50 mg) in acetone (3 mL)-water (0.6 mL) were added sodium hydrogen carbonate (24 mg) and OXONE (registered trademark) (84 mg), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the extract was washed with 1 mol/L hydrochloric acid, water and brine successively, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate.
