Procedure

A mixture of 2-(imidazole-1-carbonyl)-6-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline-5-carbaldehyde (426 mg, 1.50 mmol) and methyl iodide (475 μL, 1.05 g, 7.6 mmol) in anhydrous acetonitrile (10 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 24 h. After evaporation of the solvent the title compound (640 mg, 1.50 mmol, 100%) was obtained as a brownish foam.
