Analogously to Example 23, by reacting a solution of 10.42 g of a 95:5 mixture of the (2S,3S) nd(2R,3S) isomers of ethyl 3-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydroisoindol-2-yl)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrate (Example 20) in 10 ml of ethanol with 5.9 ml of a 33% solution of methylamine in ethanol there are obtained 5.39 g (82%) of ethyl (2S,3S)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrate, TLC (SiO2, CH2Cl2 /methanol 10:1, UV254): Rf =0.34.
