Procedure

A solution of 8.5 g of 4-[N-methyl-N-(3,5-bistrifluoromethyl-benzoyl)-amino]-5-(1H-indol-3-yl)-pent-2-enoic acid ethyl ester and 1.2 g of lithium hydroxide in 70 ml of tetrahydrofuran/methanol/water=2/2/1 is stirred at room temperature for 16 hours and then concentrated by evaporation. The residue is dissolved in 150 ml of water with heating to 50°, extracted with ether at 20°, acidified to pH=2 with 0.1N hydrochloric acid and extracted three times with ether. The combined organic phases originating from the extraction of the acidic aqueous phase are washed with water and saturated NaCl solution, dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated by evaporation. In this way the title compound is obtained in the form of a yellow foam.
