A room temperature solution of Example 85A (194 mg, 0.97 mmol), 1-(chloromethyl)-4-methoxybenzene (162 mg, 1.03 mmol), and KOH (70 mg, 1.25 mmol) in DMF (5 mL) was stirred for 2 hours, treated with saturated NH4Cl, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated. The concentrate was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel with 25% ethyl acetate/hexanes to provide the desired product.
