Procedure

A suspension of Example 96A (380 mg, 1.6 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was treated slowly with a solution of 5-(chloromethyl)-1,2,3-trimethoxybenzene (344 mg, 1.6 mmol) in DMF (5 mL), heated to 120° C. for hour, cooled to room temperature, and partitioned between ethyl acetate and brine. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the combined extracts were washed with water and brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated. The concentrate was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel with 10% ethyl acetate/dichloromethane to provide the desired product.
