Reaction Steps
65.7 g (229 mmol) of dimethyl 4-bromomethylphthalate are placed in 100 ml (583 mmol) of triethyl phosphite in a round-bottomed flask. The mixture is refluxed for 4 hours. The medium is then distilled to remove the triethyl phosphite. 60.7 g (77%) of the expected product are obtained in the form of a yellow oil.
