A solution of 2-[3,5-dichloro-4-(4-methoxy-3-nitro-phenoxy)-phenyl]-2H-[1,2,4]triazine-3,5-dione (1.1 g) in ethanol (40 mL) and ethyl acetate (4 mL) was hydrogenated (45 psi which is about 3.1 atm) over 10% palladium-on-carbon (300 mg) for 4 h. The reaction was filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound of Step A as a dark foam, 1.0 g.
