Triethylamine (0.128 mL; 0.886 mmol) was added to a mixture of 2-(5-chloro-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanamine hydrochloride (0.082 g; 0.354 mmol) and 5-methyl-2-phenylfuran-3-carbonyl chloride (0.082 g; 0.372 mmol) in dichloromethane (7 mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 minutes and washed with water. The organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure and the crude material was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (eluent 2 to 10% ethyl acetate in dichloromethane) to afford 0.116 g (86%) of N-(2-(5-chloro-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl)-5-methyl-2-phenylfuran-3-carboxamide as a solid.
