To the crude N1,N1′-([1,1′-biphenyl]-3,5-diylbis(methylene))bis(N3-(3-(isobutylamino)propyl)propane-1,3-diamine) from step 2 was added methanolic HCl (75 mL, 2.0M). The resulting white solid was collected by vacuum filtration and washed with minimal MeOH and Et2O and stored under high vacuum to afford the desired product (9.3 g, 89%) as a white solid.
