To a solution of dimethyl 5-(2-ethylbutoxyl)isophthalate (0.62 g, 2.10 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added LiAlH4 (0.24 g, 6.32 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 8 h and subsequently quenched with 2N HCl (10 mL) and extracted with Et2O (2×25 mL) and EtOAc (2×25 mL). The combined organics were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the desired product which was used without further purification.
