tert-Butyl 2-(5-hydroxy-4,4-dimethyl-pentyl)-3-oxo-5,6,8,8a-tetrahydro-1H-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazine-7-carboxylate (Compound 69-B) (1 mmol) was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) followed by the slow addition of TFA (1 mL) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 1 hour and then the solvent was removed under vacuum to give the crude product 69-A, which was used directly in the next step.
