Procedure
To a solution of 1H-1,2,3-benzotriazole-6-carboxylic acid (6.0 g, 36.8 mmol) in ethanol (27.8 mL) was added sulfuric acid (1.5 mL, 28.1 mmol). The mixture was heated to 60 C. After 18 h, the mixture was cooled to ambient temperature. Aqueous sodium hydroxide (3N) and ethyl acetate was added and solid crashed out of the solution. The solid was filtered and dried under hi-vac to give the title compound (5.14 g): LC-MS [M+1]=192.1.
