To a solution of methyl 4-[3-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]benzoate (2.0 g, 5.76 mmol) in THF: water (5 mL:10 mL) was added sodium hydroxide (0.691 g, 17.27 mmol). The reaction mass was stirred at RT for 3 h. The reaction mass was diluted with water and washed the aqueous layer with diethyl ether and toluene. The aqueous layer was cooled to 15° C. and acidified with dilute HCl. The reaction mass was filtered off to afford 1.0 g of desired product. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO d6): δ 7.50 (t, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 7.58 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.67-7.74 (m, 1H), 8.06 (s, 4H), 12.77 (br s, 1H).
