A mixture of 101j (2.75 g, 7.5 mmol), oxetan-3-one (1.6 g, 22.7 mmol), NaBH3CN (4.75 g, 22.5 mmol), and zinc chloride (3 g, 22.7 mmol) in methanol (125 mL) was stirred for 5 hours at 50° C. The mixture was added to water and extracted with methylene chloride for three times. The organic layers were concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography eluting with 25:1 methylene chloride/methanol to give 101k (1.92 g, 61%). MS: [M+H]+ 420. 1H NMR (500 MHz, DMSO) δ 8.58 (d, J=2.5, 1H), 8.55 (s, 1H), 7.94 (d, J=3, 1H), 7.54 (d, J=2.5, 1H), 7.39 (dd, J=3, 1H), 7.25 (d, J=4, 1H), 4.56 (t, J=6.5, 2H), 4.46 (t, J=6.5, 2H), 3.50 (s, 3H), 3.43 (m, 1H), 3.01 (m, 4H), 2.40 (m, 4H).
