A mixture of 200d (500 mg, 1.4 mmol), oxetan-3-one (298 mg, 4.2 mmol), NaBH3CN (261 mg, 4.2 mmol), and 1 mol/L zinc chloride in ethoxyethane (4 mL, 4.2 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) was stirred at 50° C. for 5 hours. Water (20 mL) was added to the reaction and the resulting mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (3×50 mL). The combined organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica-gel column chromatography eluting with 10:1 methylene chloride/methanol to afford 200e (450 mg, 78%) as a yellow solid.
