A 100-mL single-neck round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer was charged with acetonitrile (50 mL), trifluoroacetic acid (10 mL), 3-bromopyridin-2-ol (4.0 g, 11.56 mmol) and N-iodosuccinimide (5.2 g, 11.56 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 h. The mixture was diluted with water (100 mL) and resulting white solid was collected by filtration to afford 214a (6.6 g, 96%) as a white solid.
