To a solution of N-(2-amino-4-chloro-5-nitrobenzyl)pivalamide (2.0 g, 6.9 mmol) in methanol (20 mL), Raney Ni (2.0 g) and hydrazine hydrate (5.0 mL) were added and the reaction mass was stirred at RT for 3 h. After the completion of the reaction, the reaction mass was filtered through celite pad and obtained filtrated was concentrated to afford 1.5 g of the desired product. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO d6): δ 1.11 (s, 9H), 3.97 (br d, 2H), 4.52 (br d, 2H), 5.44 (br s, 2H), 6.50 (d, J=11.4 Hz, 2H), 7.88 (m, 1H).
