A solution of (2-phenoxythiazol-4-yl)methanol (251 mg; 1.21 mmol) in anh. DCE (12 ml) was treated with MnO2 (843 mg; 9.69 mmol), and the resulting mixture was stirred at reflux, under nitrogen, for 1 h. After cooling to rt, the mixture was filtered over a pad of celite, and the separated solids were washed with DCM. The filtrate was then concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure affording 2-phenoxythiazole-4-carbaldehyde as a pale yellow oil. LC-MS (conditions A): tR=0.65 min.; [M+H]+: 206.04 g/mol.
