To a mixture of 1-2 (0.5 g, 3.70 mmol) and diethyl oxalate (1.010 ml, 7.40 mmol) in THF (15 ml) was added sodium ethoxide (3.45 ml, 21% wt. in ethanol, 9.25 mmol). The resulting mixture was heated at 60° C. for 1 h followed by stirring at rt overnight. The reaction mixture was poured into cold hexane and the desire product 1-3 was collected as a light yellow solid: ESI+ MS [M+H]+ C12H14NO4=236.1.
