Procedure
Sodium azide (155 mg, 2.39 mL) was added to a solution of N-{3-[1-(1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-8-yl)-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]-5-methylphenyl}-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-2-amine (732 mg, 1.59 mmol) in chloroform (8.0 mL) followed by methanesulfonic acid (1.24 mL, 19.1 mmol). The reaction was heated to 65° C. for 2 h. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and water was added, followed by NaOH (1N). The organic layer was extracted with EtOAc (3×). The combined layers were dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (10% methanol/dichloromethane) to afford racemic 5-[4-(3-methyl-5-{[4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-2-yl]amino}phenyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]azepan-2-one as a white solid. MS ESI calcd. for C21H21F3N6O [M+H]+ 431. found 431.
