Procedure

6-(1-methylpropyl)-3-hydroxy-2-nitropyridine (23 g.) in 450 ml. of methanol is hydrogenated over 1 gm. of 5% palladium on carbon catalyst for 3 hours. The catalyst is removed on a filter and the filtrate is concentrated to dryness to give 2-amino-3-hydroxy-6-(1-methylpropyl)pyridine.
