Procedure
Concentrated hydrochloric acid (15 mL) was added to a suspension of tert-butyl 3-[2-(chloromethyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c][1,5]naphthyridin-1-yl]propylcarbamate (8.0 g, 21.3 mmol) in methanol (90 mL). The resulting solution was allowed to stir at room temperature for 72 hours. A solid formed that was isolated by filtration, washed with a minimal amount of methanol, and dried under vacuum to afford 6.11 g of 3-[2-(chloromethyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c][1,5]naphthyridin-1-yl]propan-1-amine hydrochloride as a pale yellow solid.
