A mixture of 4-ethyl-2-methylsulfonyl-5-nitro-pyridine (4.1 mmol), NH4Cl (26.65 mmol) and iron powder (33 mmol) in H2O (10 mL) was stirred at 90° C. for 1 h. The reaction was stopped, filtered and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to yield the desired product.
