A solution of 6-[1-ethyl-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methyl-phenyl)-propyl]-benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.780 g, 2.04 mmol) and 1-bromopinacolone (0.731 g, 4.08 mmol) in acetone (30 mL) is treated with K2CO3 (0.563 g, 4.08 mmol) and stirred at RT for 4 h. The mixture is filtered, and the filtrate is concentrated. The residue is purified using silica gel column chromatography (10-15% EtOAc/Hex) to provide the title compound (0.89 g, 91%).
