A suspension of 2-[3-(3-chlorophenyl)-7-hydroxy-1-oxo-1H-isoquinolin-2-yl]-N-isopropylacetamide (INTERMEDIATE III.7) (347 mg, 0.936 mmol), K2CO3 (674 mg, 4.68 mmol) and (S)-(+)-3-bromo-2-methyl-1-propanol (0.48 mL, 4.7 mmol) in dry acetonitrile (5 mL) was stirred for 18 h at 80° C. The resultant mixture was poured into H2O (20 mL), cooled to 0° C. and filtered. The precipitate was washed with cold H2O and dried in vacuo to furnish 2-[3-(3-chlorophenyl)-7-((S)-3-hydroxy-2-methylpropoxy)-1-oxo-1H-isoquinolin-2-yl]-N-isopropylacetamide (382 mg, 0.862 mmol, 92%) as white solid.
