Procedure
A solution of (4-amino-2-methylphenyl)-carbamic acid propyl ester (21 mg, 0.10 mmol) and 5-dimethylamino-3-methyl-benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (26 mg, 0.12 mmol) in acetonitrile (0.5 mL) was heated at 170° C. for 2 minutes using a Personal Chemistry Smith Synthesizer microwave device. After cooling to room temperature, a solution of sodium cyanoborohydride (25 mg, 0.40 mmol) in methanol (0.1 mL) was added followed by acetic acid (50 μL), and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. It was partitioned between saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (10 mL) and ethyl acetate (10 mL), and the organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. Preparative LC-MS afforded the title compound (32 mg, 77% yield).
