To a solution of tert-butyl (3S)-3-[(4-{[(3,4-dichlorophenyl)amino]carbonyl}piperidin-1-yl)methyl]piperidine-1-carboxylate (2.3 g) in methanol (50 mL) was added 4M HCl in dioxane (15 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours and then evaporated. The residue was then partitioned between dichloromethane and saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate. The layers were separated and the organic extract was evaporated. The residue was triturated with dichloromethane and filtered to give the title compound as a white solid (1.5 g, 83%)
