Under a nitrogen atmosphere, toluene (2 L) was added to a Parr vessel containing 5% platinum on carbon (3.6 g). N4-{[3-(4-Fluorophenyl)isoxazol-5-yl]methyl}-N2,N2-bis(4-methoxybenzyl)-5,6-dimethyl-3-nitropyridin-2,4-diamine (36.85 g, 61.66 mmol) was added followed by ethanol (300 mL). The vessel was sealed, purged with hydrogen, and placed under hydrogen pressure (30 psi, 2.1×105 Pa) for 18 hours at room temperature. The catalyst was removed by filtration, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 39.25 g of N4-{[3-(4-fluorophenyl)isoxazol-5-yl]methyl}-N2,N2-bis(4-methoxybenzyl)-5,6-dimethylpyridine-2,3,4-triamine as a yellow oil.
