To a stirred solution of Intermediate 67c (139 mg, 0.50 mmol) in EtOAc (5 mL) and 1M NaOH solution (1.26 mL, 1.26 mmol) was added 2,2,2-trichloroethyl chloroformate (117 mg, 76 μL, 0.55 mmol) and the reaction was stirred at RT. After 1 h, a further 1.1 eq of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl chloroformate was added, stirred for an additional 1 h, then a further 2.2 eq. of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl chloroformate added. After stirring for an additional 2 h, the reaction was partitioned between H2O and EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, and the aqueous layer extracted with EtOAc. The combined organics were dried over MgSO4, concentrated in vacuo and subjected to FCC, eluting with 0-50% EtOAc/cyclohexane, and triturated with Et2O to afford the title compound (74 mg, 33%).
