Procedure
To 280 mg of ethyl 1-(6-t-butylamino-3-cyano-5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)-8-chloro-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinolone-3-carboxylate was added 3 ml of 12N hydrochloric acid, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 6 hours and allowed to cool. The solid precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with ethanol and diethylether successively to obtain 120 mg of the title compound as a pale yellow powder.
