A mixture of 1-benzyl-3-chloro-6-(4-methyl-2-phenyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-7-trifluoromethylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one hydrochloride (2.0 g, 3.6 mmol) and hydrazine hydrate (0.74 ml, 15 mmol) in 40 ml of dichloromethane was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h and evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was triturated with water to give 1.59 g (87%) of the title compound. M.p. 127-130° C.
