A solution of 80.0 mg (0.196 mmol) of ethyl 4-[(5,6-dihydro-5,5-dimethyl-8-(2-pyridyl)-2-naphthalenyl)ethynyl]benzoate (Compound 10) and 20.6 mg (0.491 mmol) of LiOH-H2O in 3 ml of THF/water (3:1, v/v), was stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction was quenched by the addition of saturated aqueous NH4Cl and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with water and brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a colorless solid. 1H NMR (d6-DMSO): δ 8.64 (1H, m), 7.94 (2H, d, J=8.3 Hz), 7.87 (1H, dt, J=1.7, 7.8 Hz), 7.58 (2H, d, J=8.3 Hz), 7.50 (1H, d, J=8.2 Hz), 7.47 (2H, s), 7.37 (1H, m), 7.25 (1H, s), 6.30 (1H, t, J=4.6 Hz), 2.39 (2H, d, J=4.6 Hz), 1.31 (6H, s).
