Procedure
To a solution of 4-[bis(tert-butoxycarbonyl)methyl]-8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonylquinoline (5.8 g) in dichloromethane (15 ml) was dropwise added trifluoroacetic acid (45 ml) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour at ambient temperature. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was pulverized with diethyl ether to give 4-carboxymethyl-8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonylquinoline (4.08 g).
