A suspension of 4-carboxymethyl-8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonylquinoline (2-5 g) in 1,2-dichloroethane (60 ml) was refluxed for 14 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residual solid was treated with hot ethanol (45 ml) to afford 8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonyl-4-methylquinoline (2.08 g) as a colorless prism.
