Procedure
A mixture of 3-bromo-8-[3-(methoxycarbonyl)benzoylamino]quinoline (356 mg) and 1N sodium hydroxide aqueous solution (1.1 ml) in methanol (5 ml) and dioxane (5 ml) was gently refluxed for 2 hours. After cooling, the mixture was neutralized with 1N hydrochloric acid. The solvent was removed in vacuo, and the residue was washed with hot 95% ethanol and collected by filtration to give 3-bromo-8-(3-carboxybenzoylamino)quinoline (397 mg) as pale tan solid.
