Reaction Steps
A solution of 2-chloro-3-aminopyridine (12.9 g, 0.1 m) and thionyl chloride (5.5 g, 0.05 m) in Et2O (100 ml) is heated at reflux with stirring. After 15 hours, the 2-chloro-3-aminopyridine HCl is filtered off and the solution concentrated to dryness to yield 2-chloro-3-thionylaminopyridine (1).
