To a mixture of dimethyl(2S,3S,5R)-5-[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]-2-[(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)carbonyl]piperidine-1,3-dicarboxylate (50.0 mg, 0.000103 mol) and benzenethiol (0.0149 mL, 0.000145 mol) in tetrahydrofuran (0.50 mL, 0.0062 mol) was added 1.00 M of potassium tert-butoxide in tetrahydrofuran (0.150 mL). The mixture was stirred at rt overnight. The reaction mixture was carried directly into next step.
