Procedure

In a mixture of 20 ml. of benzene and 0.51 g. of triethylamine is dissolved 1.25 g. of 1,3-dimethyl-4-(2-chlorobenzoyl)-5-hydroxypyrazole and 0.4 g. of acetyl chloride is added dropwise at room temperature with stirring. After completion of the dripwise addition, the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, water is added to the reaction mixture to dissolve the salts and an organic layer is separated. The organic layer is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and the solvent os distilled off. The resulting oily substance is recrystallized from n-hexane to give crude crystalline substance. The substance is recrystallized from methanol to give 1.20 g. of the desired product as colorless prisms melting at 78°-79° C. Yield 82.2%.
