Procedure

Silica gel (chromatography grade) (20 g) was added to a solution of the product of step (c) (1.2 g) in tetrahydrofuran (50 ml) and the suspension stirred for 1 hour. The mixture was filtered, the filtrate evaporated to dryness and the residue triturated with methanol to yield a white solid. Recrystallisation of the solid from ethanol yielded the title compound (1.2 g) as white crystals, mp 225°-6°.
