Procedure
A mixture of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4-oxo-1-naphthylurea (4.5 g), methyl carbazate (4.0 g), 95% ethanol (150 ml) and concentrated hydrochloric acid (2 ml) is heated at reflux for an overnight period. The mixture is cooled to room temperature and the crystals are collected. The product melts at 230° C to 233° C (dec). On recrystallizing from aqueous methanol, the title compound melts at 223° C to 225° C (dec).
