A mixture of 1.2 g of N2 -(2-naphthylsulfonyl)-L-arginyl-N-butylglycine and 1.0 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate in 5 ml of benzyl alcohol and 30 ml of benzene was refluxed for 5 hours, while removing water by azeotropic distillation. At the end of this period, the solvent was evaporated and then 100 ml of ethyl ether was added to the residue to give 1.73 g (93%) of N2 -(2-naphthylsulfonyl)-L-arginyl-N-butylglycine benzyl ester p-toluenesulfonate in the form of a powder.
